You paid a refundable deposit when you rented an apartment a year ago. You left the apartment

You paid a refundable deposit when you rented an apartment a year ago. You left the apartment last month in good condition but the landlord won’t return your deposit.

Write a letter to the landlord. In your letter,

  • introduce yourself and say why you are writing
  • ask for the return of your deposit
  • inform the landlord of possible action if he/she does not agree to refund the amount

Band 7 G.T Task, paid a refundable deposit

Dear Mr Ravi,

Hope you are doing fine. I am Bharat Anjna and I had been a tenant to your blueberry village resident for a year. I used to live in apartment 26G and left it on 1st March. Before leaving the apartment I asked you to kindly inspect it and inform me of any damage, and to my best knowledge, there was none. You did not inform me about anything either. Now I am writing to you to kindly return the deposit amount which is $2000.

I asked you to return me the deposit one week before leaving your flat, but you told me that it would take two more weeks. So I am reminding you about your commitment and expecting that you would return me $2000 as agreed upon in our tenant agreement. You can either deposit the money to my bank account or call me to collect it from your house at your convenience.

I am quite positive that you are not holding the money with the false pretext of repair work. If this is the case, I would be left with no other choice but to take legal actions against you after waiting exactly two weeks from today.

Hope we can solve the problem and maintain our good relationship.

Yours faithfully,

Bharat Singh Anjna
