In this contemporary era, there is a significant decline in handwriting in the majority of the schools. The main reason for this is the introduction of cutting-edge technology, however, I believe that this is profusely detrimental to children which we will look at in-depth prior to an informed conclusion.
On the one hand, handwriting is an ability that enhances one’s brain. In other words, when a child writes by pen or pencil, it allows them to learn the spelling by-heart, check for grammar mistakes, consequently, boosting one’s cognitive abilities and reading skills. Therefore, writing is the fundamental key for learning as it persuades them to memorize subject matter easily. Besides, this skill could also allow people to know about the writer’s character. For example, my sister Sierra has beautiful and legible writing, whereas her friend has got awful handwriting which is very hard to comprehend. It is observed that the former is well-organized and have clarity in thinking, while the latter is often confused and messy.
On the other hand, a myriad of schools encourages their students to touch-type their notes due to the development of technological devices. Using gadgets, it is easy to type without worrying about spelling and grammar as there are spell check functions and grammar correction options such as Grammarly software. Also, they do not have ideas as their critical thinking skills are almost negligible. For instance, if there is a power cut or technical issue with the electronic device, then the children have to use their hands to write their work.
In conclusion, although technology has advanced to substitute handwriting skills, in my perspective, adopting handwriting skills is the best way to increase thinking abilities, and also it can depict an individual’s mentality.
