Band 7 Cue Card
The market today is overflowing with new technological inventions and each one of them guarantees a better and easier life. One such piece of equipment was gifted to my mother at our housewarming ceremony two years back. It was a microwave.
Before that, there was no microwave in our house. So after the house warming, my mother placed the microwave on our newly built kitchen counter and told me to heat a glass of milk. I, having seen the microwave for the first time and having no idea of how to switch it on, confidently replied her to wait for 2 minutes.
In those two minutes, I fidgeted with all the buttons and dials so that I could get the correct one. Even so, I couldn’t heat milk in it. After accepting defeat, I read the manual that came with it and then after three more failed attempts, I was finally able to run it.
Heating eatables was just one of many functions the microwave could do. It could bake cookies or roast chicken nuggets. It also had automatic settings for different kinds of dishes. Learning all this took me more than six months and it took even more time to teach my mother. I am still not able to bake a perfect cake in the microwave. So, this was the kitchen appliance which I found really difficult to use at first.
